The craziness of March Madness is not quite over as the brackets were released last night and the nation is in a frenzy filling out their picks.Me, on the other hand, found the time to break away from the madness and am getting back to my blog.
Why is it so difficult and frustrating to be an Islanders fan? I would rather have two options with this team... Either be really bad, or be really good...I can say for myself and some other Islanders fans out there that enough of this "Hey lets finally play good hockey when it doesn't matter anymore..." What I mean is that the New York Islanders have a tendency to start really bad or good, then tank or do good at the end of the season... Its different in this case because they have no shot in making the playoffs... In the 06-07 season at the time they started wining they put themselves back in the playoff hunt, made moves and ultimately received the 8th seed... However for this year and in some years past, when the Islanders have no shot in winning they play good the last month...This is what fans want every game...don't give it your all when it doesn't matter anymore...Last night a rookie in Peter Mannino made 40 saves to beat the Chicago Blackhawks 4-2...Chicago is 4th in the west!!...they beat a playoff bound Montreal team in overtime and lost a hard fought battle to the top ranked Boston Bruins...
This is hockey that Isles fans wanted all season...not when the games mean nothing...it actually hurts them because now they are losing their no. 1 sport in this June's draft...In their past 10 games the Isles went a great 6-2-1...that included a spanking of the Devils, wins against Colorado, Phoenix, Chicago, Buffalo and Montreal...and loses to the Rangers and Bruins...at home the Isles have a respectable 16-14-5 but a god-awful 8-24-3 away from Nassau Coliseum...if the Isles want to be in contention they have to win on the road...
Its just frustrating because the Islanders are a team that had one of the best sports dynasties around in the '80s which helped put Long Island on the map...they were strong in the early '90s, then became a joke until the early 2000's...then went on to make the playoffs in 3 consecutive seasons, and now are a joke again...there has to be some consistency with this team...now all of a sudden they want to win...where was this in Oct. and Nov. ...just lose so that we can build our team around John Tavares who is going to be No.1 regardless of what team falls there...

C'mon Isles...smarten up...don't lose out on the first pick because you want to win some games for pride...you don't have to throw away the games but if you wanted to win ...win a little earlier than this..
